Drive Distraction Free in the D

Sponsored by Sam Bernstein Law Firm

Distracted driving causes the majority of teen crashes.

So FOX 2 is teaming up with the Michigan Secretary of State's Office and The Sam Bernstein Law Firm to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving. We want everyone to Drive Distraction Free, in the D!

High School students - take part in our contest!  Take the pledge and make a pledge about why you'll drive distraction free!  Write a statement of up to 300 words about why you will drive distraction free and you could win cash prizes from the Sam Bernstein Law Firm!

First place $2000
Second place $1000
Third place $500

Plus, the top five have the chance to come to the FOX 2 studios and appear in a FOX 2 Public Service Announcement!

What is distracted driving? It's anything that takes your attention away from driving. Those things can include:

·         Texting

·         Using a cell phone or smartphone

·         Eating and drinking

·         Talking to passengers

·         Grooming

·         Reading, including maps

·         Using a navigation system

·         Watching a video

·         Adjusting a radio or CD player

Of those, texting is the most dangerous distraction because it takes visual, manual and cognitive attention from the driver.

We want everyone to be safe on Michigan's roads - which is why FOX 2 has formed a partnership with Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson and The Sam Bernstein Law Firm. We are working to raise awareness and because teen drivers are the most vulnerable we are encouraging high school students to commit to driving distraction free!

Find resources about safe driving for teens here: www.michigan.gov/teendriver

You’ll find resources to help fight distracted driving including driving tips and links to free safe driving apps. The site was created for parents and teens to easily find helpful information on driver education in the state.

Together – we can make the roads safer for everyone!
