Sherry grew up in snowy Buffalo, NY, but never learned to ski. She graduated cum laude with a degree in English from the State University of New York at Buffalo, where she did graduate work in Communication.
What you wanted to be when you grew up: I always thought I would be an English teacher, but I secretly wanted to be a news reporter. I'm happy things worked out the way they did, but I still think about maybe teaching one day.
Your inspiration: My three daughters. They are smart, kind, independent young women and I am constantly learning from them. My other inspiration is my late husband, Jeffrey Zaslow, who was an author and columnist at the Wall Street Journal. He is with me always.
What you like most about your job: I love connecting with people and telling their stories, especially ordinary people doing extraordinary things. They are the ones truly making a difference in our world. I also love the fact that every day at work is different. I learn something new every day.
Favorite food: Anything with sugar in it. I have a huge sweet tooth, and I love anything sweet, especially candy. Jelly beans are my favorite!
Least favorite food: Beets and anchovies. Not necessarily together.
Favorite vacation spots: Big Sur, Carmel and Monterey. The central California coastline is the most beautiful spot in the country. I also loved our family vacation to Costa Rica. It was special in so many ways.
Your idol: Helen Keller and Eleanor Roosevelt. Two truly remarkable women.
Favorite movie: Singin' in the Rain. I could watch it over and over again, just to see Gene Kelly dance with that umbrella and splash around in those puddles. And Donald O'Connor was brilliantly funny!
