125 years. That's how long Eastern Market has been nourishing our community. FOX 2 is proud to join in the celebration - honoring all that the market does for our community.
Our year-long coverage kicked off on Flower Day. Unseasonably cold weather and an occasional snow shower didn't deter the crowds for the annual Flower Day festivities.
The FOX2 News Sunday team was broadcasting from the market all morning long and introduced the community to the people responsible for making Flower Day a 50 year tradition. Watch the videos above for a sample of some of our coverage.
Flower Day may have kicked off the year - but there's something going on Eastern Market all year long!
Most people know about the Saturday Market that features fresh produce every Saturday all year - but did you know there's also a Tuesday Market with health and wellness activities and a Sunday Market with Michigan-Made products? Plus the Market District is home to great restaurants and retail.
As a nonprofit corporation, Eastern Market works every day to nourish a healthier, wealthier and happier Detroit. They work to improve access to fresh healthy food - bringing produce to people throughout Metro Detroit to area where access to fresh food is challenging. Eastern Market also provides space for food entrepreneurs.
Eastern Market is a place that connects us with food, and each other. They've done it for 125 years. Join in the celebration - there's a gala event on Friday September 30th that will raise funds for the nonprofit's efforts to get healthy food to those who need it and support food entrepreneurs. There's also a free celebration open to everyone on Saturday, October 1st.
