Hundreds of high schoolers pledge to drive distraction free

This week is Teen Safe Driving Week, and also a perfect time to wrap up our Drive Distraction Free in the D contest with the Michigan Secretary of State and the Sam Bernstein Law Firm.

Hundreds of high school students from across metro Detroit entered by taking a pledge and writing a statement about why they'll drive distraction free.

We were all very impressed with the statements the high school students gave us.

Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson and attorney Mark Bernstein joined us on Live at Eleven to tell us more about some of the entries we received. You can watch in the video player above.

They also joined us to announce the first prize winner, Lauren Henderson from University High School Academy in Southfield -- congratulations!

A snippet from her pledge reads, "Nothing is more important than the safety of those in a motor vehicle. It's my responsibility to keep those in my car safe, as well as those driving around safe from my bad actions."

FOX 2 has reached out to all of the winners via email.

Thank you to everyone who submitted and pledged to drive distraction free!
