Nearly 300,000 kids in Southeast Michigan rely on free or reduced lunches throughout the school year. When summer vacation arrives, those meals are no longer available, leaving many children without enough food and nutrition.
That's why Gleaners Community Food Bank is working to create a Hunger Free Summer!
Gleaners Hunger Free Summer initiative is designed to keep children fed who would otherwise lose out without free or reduced lunches they receive during the school year. The food bank has provided meals to various summer programs and youth centers across Southeast Michigan.
Donations will be matched dollar for dollar during the summer through the end of August. Every dollar will provide six meals for hungry children in Southeast Michigan.
