Statistically speaking, the coldest week in Michigan is over

- Rejoice, the coldest stretch of the winter is over and we can finally start preparing for spring! Well, yes and no.

Here's the break down. We've had a lot of snow and some BITTER cold this winter but we're barely a month into the season. The good news is that, statistically speaking, the worst is over.

The FOX 2 weather authority looked into the data. The three months of December, January and February are, statistically, the coldest months of the year. The worst of it? Right in the middle.

The week of January 16th through January 20th is, statistically, the 5 coldest days of the year.

This the statistic bottom and average highs from here on continue to climb up until we get to spring. Now, that doesn't mean we're done with the cold. You know that, you live here.

We still have some cold air coming and we'll see at least one more bitter cold week in January or February.

Looking at the models over the next two and a half weeks, through at least the first week of February, things look milder than normal. This isn't flip flops and dinner on the patio weather, but it is warmer, for now.

Get the FOX 2 Weather App now and track the winter weather and eventual warm up.
