What is distracted driving? It's anything that takes your attention away from driving. Those things can include:
· Using a cell phone or smartphone
· Eating and drinking
· Talking to passengers
· Reading, including maps
· Using a navigation system
· Watching a video
· Adjusting a radio or CD player
Of those, texting is the most dangerous distraction because it takes visual, manual and cognitive attention from the driver.
We want everyone to be safe on Michigan's roads - which is why FOX 2 has formed a partnership with Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson and The Sam Bernstein Law Firm. We are working to raise awareness and because teen drivers are the most vulnerable we are encouraging high school students to commit to driving distraction free!
Find resources about safe driving for teens here: www.michigan.gov/teendriver
