Local star Jayson Blair in 'The Dog Lover'

Based on real life events, The movie "The Dog Lover" brings to light the uncomfortable truth about puppy mills and, sometimes, the lengths organizations go to get them shut down. One of the movie's stars is from right here in metro Detroit and joined us on The Nine to tell us more about the film.

In the film, Sara Gold is a rising star at the United Animal Protection Agency (UAPA), a major animal rights organization that conducts animal rescues and lobbies for better animal welfare laws. Handpicked for a major assignment, Sara goes undercover as a college intern to infiltrate a suspected "puppy mill" run by the enigmatic Daniel Holloway.

Jayson Blair is a 33-year-old actor born in Detroit and raised in Macomb Township. He'll be at the screenings and has special meet-and-greets planned around the film's opening at the AMC Forum 30 in Sterling Heights, July 8-10.

"The Dog Lover" opens in theaters July 8 and is rated PG.
