Mark Wahlberg talks Deepwater Horizon, Detroit and Wahlburgers

In 2010, an explosion on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico killed 11 people and caused the largest oil spill in U.S. waters.

Now, the story of those who worked on the Deepwater Horizon is coming to the big screen.

The movie goes behind the scenes and talks about the lives of the men and women who experienced the disaster.

FOX 2's Lee Thomas sat down with one of the film's stars, Mark Wahlberg, and they didn't just talk about the movie -- but the City of Detroit.

Wahlberg, 45, takes the lead in the new film Deepwater Horizon based on the true story of the worst oil spill in U.S. history.

But when they sat down, the first thing Thomas talked about was the line he encountered at Wahlburgers restaurant in Greektown.

And Wahlberg says that they are going to build more.

"We're looking at 13th and Woodward and then at the new mall there by the hospital," he said. "And then also Ann Arbor. We're looking at a couple different places. But I tell you, you know how much I love Detroit. We were just there for 10 weeks and I had a blast. I got so many friends there that treat me like family. The amount of love that I get there and have for Detroit -- it's a very special place. But the people keep going and the line's around the door because the food is so good."

Wahlberg says some of his favorite things include the Woodward Dream Cruise, and the golfing location, including Franklin Hills Country Club, Oakland Hills Country Club, Plum Hollow Country Club, and more.

When it comes to Deepwater Horizon, the movie star says it's all about honoring people.

"We want to make sure that we honor those people in the way that they deserve to be honored," he said. "Their families, their sacrifice and those things are important. Usually any other movie's about your own individual experience as an actor, certainly. But for this, everybody is doing it for the same reason. It's to honor those people."

Deepwater Horizon is rated PG-13 and it stars not only Wahlberg, but Kurt Russell, Kate Hudson, and Gina Rodriguez.
