Detroit Zoo makes several changes as it goes green

Even the polar bear will tell you: It's easy being green at the Detroit Zoo.

The zoo is working on a huge energy efficiency project that's now getting national attention. It involves *upgrades* in heating, lighting, and water efficiency.

Next time you take the family to the zoo, you'll notice water bottles are no longer available. Those have been deemed bad for the environment and are now banned from the zoo.

But it's not just banning plastics, they're also conserving. Nothing goes unused at the zoo, even animal waste. A state-of-the-art bio-digester is now being used that transformed the waste into compost or fertilizer, which will then be used on the grounds.

And there's still more! If you drive by the zoo this time of year, you'll notice the holiday lights on display. Five million bulbs adorn the zoo, all of which are energy efficient, LED bulbs.
