Boy will donate his knee-length hair on 5th birthday, Valentine's Day

It's one Michigan family's tradition - they just let their hair grow.

Nichole Brown says her husband didn't get his first haircut until he was nearly five years old, and the tradition has carried over to their children.

A pair of scissors hasn't even come close to 4-year-old Jaylen's long, dark wavy locks, which now reach past his knees. Nichole says her other children's hair never grew as long as Jaylen's.

"It is a lot of hair. It's a lot of work - for me - to take care of," Nicole says smiling.

"I hate it. I hate it when I get brushed," Jaylen says.

Jaylen and his mom won't have to sit through the hair brushings for much longer, though. They have decided to cut it all off in hopes of making wigs for other young children who may be battling cancer.

"Sometimes they don't have hair because they're sick," Jaylen says.

The family hopes the haircut will be on the big day of Jaylen's fifth birthday, which is also Valentine's Day.

Although the barber chair may be a bit of a shock to Jaylen, he is excited to give a little love and lose a lot of hair.

"No more hair on my head!" he says.
