Meet Toni, the FOX 2 pet of the week! The 9-month-old American Bulldog mix needs your affection and training!
The Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Agency brought Toni by on Monday. She's not crate or house-trained and will require work to be properly behaved. But don't worry - she's not shy!
If you're interested in adopting her, call (313) 884-1551. You can also go to www.gpaas.org for more information.
She also came with a message this week: if you tether your dog outdoors, do it the right way. She knows the hard way how bad it can be: when she was found, a tie-out was tied around her neck so tight that she couldn't even eat!
Some dogs are fence-jumpers so a pen or fully fenced yard may not work. If that's your dog and you've got it tethered, make sure you're using a tie-out attached to a collar around the dog's neck. It's never safe to use the tie out or cable without a collar to secure the dog. This can result in an imbedded injury where the tie out digs into the neck of the dog, preventing the dog from eating, and must be surgically removed.
Appropriate collars should fit snugly enough to not slip over the dog’s head but you should be able to insert 2 fingers under the collar. The buckle should be strong enough to attach to the tie out.
