(WJBK) - FOX 2's Lee Thomas sat down with Deepwater Horizon star Kurt Russell to talk about his role in the new film Deepwater Horizon and learned much more.
Not only that has he been to games at Comerica Park, but he also revealed there's a movie that tells the story of his father's baseball team.
"There are only a few people that know that story really and that's my mom and myself -- that are left alive," Russell said.
It's the story of his father Bing and how he started a real independent Minor League Baseball team that made money without any affiliation to Major League Baseball.
It's called The Battered Bastards of Baseball and it was produced by his nephews.
"I was really proud of them for achieving something that I didn't think would've been a very easy thing to do and that was they captured a lot of who my dad was," Russell said. "That's something I don't think I would have been able to do."
Russell also stars opposite Mark Wahlberg in the movie Deepwater Horizon, which tells the story of the drilling rig the day it exploded in the Gulf of Mexico.
The movie also stars a family member -- Kate Hudson.
"It was nice to have the opportunity to be in the same movie as her," Russell said.
Deepwater horizon is rated PG-13 and in theaters Friday.
