(WJBK) - The new musical "Fun Home" is making its Detroit debut this holiday season. The groundbreaking musical is at the Fisher Theatre November 29 - December 11.
The show is groundbreaking not only because it's the first time a Broadway show has had a lesbian leading character, but it also made history as the first show written exclusively by women to ever win Best Musical. Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori also became the first female writing team to win Best Score.
At its core, Fun Home is about a family. It's based on Alison Bechdel's best-selling graphic memoir, which explores her childhood growing up in a small Pennsylvania town in the 1970s with her rather eccentric family. Fun Home introduces us to Alison at three different ages, revealing memories of her uniquely dysfunctional family - her mother, brothers and volatile, brilliant, enigmatic father - that connect with her in surprising new ways. A finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, Fun Home is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes.
Tickets will be available for purchase at all Ticketmaster locations, by phone at 1-800-982-2787, and online at www.broadwayindetroit.com or www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets can also be purchased at The Fisher Theatre Box Office starting Monday, August 15 at 10:00 a.m. Ticket prices start at $39.
