DETROIT (WJBK) - Playground Detroit is furthering efforts to support and promote Detroit talent by opening an event space in the Eastern Market District.
Playground Detroit was founded by two Detroit friends who worked in the creative industry in New York City. Paulina Petkoski and Samantha Banks say, while they lived there, they were always asked what's happening back home in Detroit. They say they couldn't really "tell" people about the huge artistic movement happening back home, so they decided to show them.
Playground Detroit supports and promotes Detroit artists and musicians by creating exhibitions and events, and commissions (paid work) for Detroit artists. They also promote the arts community through a digital magazine, online marketplace, and social media networks. To date, they have worked with more than 100 artists and hosted more than 50 events.
Construction for their new space in the Eastern Market District is currently underway, and it's expected to open in the spring of 2017.
