Anxiety transfers from parent to child, studies show

- Some people just get math. They see the world in numbers and equations. For the rest of the world that doesn't enjoy adding and subtracting, this anxiety can become contagious.

Parents: if you hate math, refrain from helping kids with their math. A new study from the university of Chicago found that parents plagued by this subject can bring upon the same curse to their kids; by transferring their anxiety onto their children.

"Even though their efforts can be incredibly well-intentioned ... when parents are trying the help with math it can actually backfire," says one researcher.

If parents keep their distance, kids do just fine in class.
