By now, you've seen the warnings: putting your child in a car seat while wearing puffy coat is dangerous. If you're in an accident, the thick layer will make it harder for your kids to be restrained by the harness.
So how do you ensure your child's safety? Made in Michigan's Recaro has the solution: take the coat off. If possible, warm up your car and get your kid in but without the coat. If that's not possible, go with multiple thin layers for warmth instead.
You can also swaddle your kids in blankets while in the car seat or put the coat on backwards, over your kids arms, one they're strapped in.
Kinsey Johnson and Matt Larrison are with Recaro. The company that makes harnesses for race car drivers and airplanes is also making car seats for young kids. Now, they've branched out to include infant seats as well.
