(WJBK) - Danny Braithwaite bravely battled cancer and is now helping others do the same.
At the young age of 18, he's been through more than people twice his age but he isn't letting a ferocious battle with cancer leave him on the sidelines. Instead, he's focusing his energy on helping others fight the disease and he's getting a little help from FOX 2 family member M.L. Elrick.
In January 2015, doctors found Danny had a brain tumor. He had brain surgery to have part of it removed, and learned it was cancerous. He began chemo and radiation, and has been cancer free now for a few months.
He says the organization Angels of Hope donated to and helped his family when he was fighting cancer, so he's giving back to them now and helping other families going through the similar situation.
He'll be at Racing Angels of Hope this weekend, a 5k at Metro Beach with M.L. Elrick, who is a family friend. You're welcome to come cheer them on, or run or walk the race yourself.
You can register on-site for $30. Sign in begins at 10 a.m. Metro Beach is located at 31300 Metro Parkway in Harrison Township.
