Detroit woman's water efforts recognized by The KIND Foundation

- The KIND Foundation, a nonprofit established by the snack company KIND, is recognizing a Detroit woman for her efforts in the fight for water rights in Michigan.

When Monica Lewis Patrick learned the City of Detroit had cut off water to an apartment building where low-income mothers and senior citizens lived, she knew she had to help. She founded We The People, an organization that educates people on water issues and empowers the community to take action.

Her work has been recognized locally, nationally and globally, and her commitment to building an equitable society inspires everyone around her.

Her most latest recognition comes from The KIND Foundation, where her nomination was one of nearly 5,000 nationwide. She's one of 7 winners in KIND's philanthropic program called KIND People.

She's received a $100,000 prize from The Kind Foundation.
