LifeLab Kids in Ferndale to offer range of therapy, art programs all one place

A new facility is coming to the city of Ferndale, offering therapy and artistic programs for children all under one roof.

When Jai Reddy's was diagnosed with autism 10 years ago, they had to take him to a number of appointments including speech therapy, music therapy and more.

"It was pretty much like an all-day commute to get him from point A to point B, so all those things drove me to put this together -- something that I've been working on for a few years now," he said.

Reddy is gearing up to open to open a one-of-a-kind nonprofit facility in Ferndale called LifeLab Kids that will house not just traditional therapies, such as speech, but more unconventional ones, such as art therapy, recreation, even equine therapy. And it'll all be under one roof -- a former 1950s church on Hilton, north of 9 Mile. The therapy isn't just for kids with autism, but all types of special needs.

The grand opening is from 2 - 5 p.m. Saturday at LifeLab Kids, 3178 Hilton Road in Ferndale.

Reddy said they tore it down to barebones, but were able to complete a 9-month project in about 90 days.

"I feel like I can achieve a lot more, with the non-profit umbrella. The kind of support that I have been receiving since it is a non-profit has been tremendous," he said.
