Man turns life around with Mariners Inn, now helping others

Mariners Inn serves as an anchor for those struggling to navigate the treacherous waters of homelessness and substance abuse.

The facility has changed the lives of many men in Detroit and beyond. Curtis Beard is one of those men, and he joined us on The Nine to tell us more about his story.

He first came to Mriners Inn in 2010 looking for help, and now serves as a current case manager. As a current case manager, Curtis works on a lot of the residents' external needs, like setting up physicals and tests in addition to setting up referrals for dental appointments, eye check-ups and more. He also leads Narcotics Anonymous (NA) groups, where he opens up with a topic or a new step for residents and the group weighs in on their current state while getting to know one another, too.

You can hear more of Curtis' story by watching his interview in the video player above.
