(WJBK) - In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, FOX 2 welcomes Mexican dessert shop owner Tony Hernandez.
Hernandez, owner of Mangonadas, made for us today fresh mangonadas, a traditional Mexican drink that consists of chilled fruit juices and a variety of ingredients (mangos, chamoy, chili power and lime juice), with Kathy Wendler, president of the Southwest Detroit Business Association.
4 cups fresh mango chunks
2 cups water
1 cup sugar
2 mangos diced
¼ cup chili powder
1 cup chili sauce CHAMOY
Place mango chunks, water and sugar into a blender and blend until smooth consistency.
Pour the mixture in a cup and add the diced mango and a spoon and place in freezer.
Place the cup in a warm water for a few minutes to loosen mixture. When ready, use spoon to pull mixture out and add to a larger cup. Add lime juice, 2 - 3 tablespoons of chamoy and 1 teaspoon of Tajin classic seasoning to each cup. Add tamarin sticks for flavor. Serve immediately.
