Could Paleo be your eating strategy for 2018?

The start of the New Year is a great opportunity to make changes and adopt a healthier eating strategy. One diet you've probably been hearing more about lately is "Going Paleo".

Certified Nutritionist, Heather Schember, from Whole Foods Market joined us in the FOX 2 Cooking School to tell us more about going Paleo.

The Paleo approach is emphasizing whole, nutrient-rich foods like fruits and vegetables, meat, seafood, nuts and seeds. The goal is to eat more of the foods our ancient ancestors knew.

The benefit is there aren't strict guidelines. You focus more on foods like fruits and vegetables, meat, seafood, nuts and seeds -- and avoid refined sugar, legumes, dairy, artificial additives and highly processed foods.

Variety of substitutes to keep meals interesting such as:

  • Spiralized veggie noodles and cauliflower rice for grain alternatives
  • Coconut, avocado, macadamia nut oils replace vegetable oils and butter
  • Nut milks like almond and coconut replace dairy milk.

The bottom line is to look for fresh, quality real foods.
