Tips for grilling steak this Father's Day from Andiamo

It's summer and the grills are back out! Many will be putting them to use this weekend, too, for Father's Day.

Chef Jim Oppat from Andiamo joined us in the FOX 2 Cooking School with some tips for grilling the best steak possible for Dad this Sunday.

First things first -- if you've got a marinade on your steak, wipe off any excess before it hits the grill. That will prevent any flare-ups.

If your grill or cast iron skillet isn't hot enough, the juices and marinade will seep out of the steak and fall through the grates. So you also want to make sure your medium is nice and hot so the flavor gets seared in.

Another important tip -- once your steak is turned, do not turn it again. Since most steaks are relatively thin and tender, they shouldn't require much more cooking time once they have been turned. Thicker cuts can be moved to a cooler portion of the grill so that they don't get charred. Or, they can finish cooking in the oven. Use a digital thermometer or the "finger test" to see if it's done.

You can get more tips from Chef Jim here. He also shared some popular marinades with us, a garlic & herb marinade and a burgundy wine & shallot butter marinade. You can get those recipes here

Or, if grilling's not your think, you can treat Dad to a 12 oz. center cut New York Strip Steak for just $20.95 later this summer at Andiamo. Meanwhile, dads eat free on Father's Day there, too.
