Vera Asian serving up authentic Asian food in Royal Oak

A newer restaurant in downtown Royal Oak is serving up authentic Asian food. 

Husband and wife team Jimmy and Kim Nguyen run Vera Asian. They joined us on The Nine to tell us more about their food.

BEEF BROCCOLI
Beef Marinade 
8 oz sliced beef
1 egg white
1/2 tsp corn starch
1/2 tsp black papper
1/2 tsp vegetable oil
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vegetable powder
* A minimal of 30 minutes inside refrigerator

8 oz. sliced beef
10 oz. broccoli
2 tbsp chopped garlic
2 tbsp premium grade light soy sauce
2 tbsp oyster sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp vegetable powder
1/4 tsp ground white or black pepper
3 tsp vegetable oil
1 tsp sesame oil 

Slice 8-1 0 o z of be ef app roxima tely 2 " len gth x 1- 1/2" wid th x 1/4 " th ick.  Comb in e with all ingr edients listed u nder be ef marina de sectio n.  Using c lean ha nds or with plastic glov es , m ix all ingr edients for appro ximately 2 m inute s.

STEP 1:  He at cooking pan or skillet to hig ht heat .  Ad d in vege table oil.  Swirl o il a roun d to coa t entire pan sur face.
STEP 2:  When oil sta rts to ligh tly smoke, add in mar inaded beef.  Co oking each side for ap pr oximate ly 30 sec on ds to a medium rar e temp eratu r e.  Add in th e choppe d gar lic, cut br occoli and premea sured seasoning s (soy s au ce, oyster sauce, sa lt, sugar , and vegetable powder ).  STEP 3:  Using a sp ec ula, stir frie d all ingre dients t ogether , cooking for 1 -2 minu tes until b r occoli is cooke d on th e outside but still crisby on the in side.   Fo cus on moving th e ingre dients t o the ce ntered to allow fo r ev en cooking .   
STEP 4 :  Befor e servin g, add in gree n onions and ses ame oil.  St ir fried for 3 second s befor e tra nsforing to ser vin g plate

SHRIMP FRIED RICE
15 oz Cooked Rice 
8  oz medium size shrimp (peeled, deveined & boiled) 
2 medium size eggs 
2 Tbsp chopped garlic 
2 Tbsp scallions 
6 oz bean sprouts
½ tsp salt 
½ tsp vegetable powder 
¼  tsp ground white or black pepper 
2   Tbsp premium grade light soy sauce 
3 Tbsp vegetable oil 
1 Tbsp sesame oil

STEP 1:  Hea t coo king pan or s killet to hig ht heat.  Add in vege table oil.  Swir l oil aro und to coat ent ir e pan surfa ce.
STEP 2:  Wh en oil star ts to lightly smoke, a dd in 2 e ggs.  Wait u ntil eggs p uff up, scr amble the egg s to me dium d one consista ncy.  Add in t he chop ped g arlic and cooked s hrimps.  Using a specula, stir fr ie d all ingr edients to gether , co oking for 15- 30 second s.
STEP 3:  Add in the cooked rice and pre-measu red se asonsings (salt, ve getable powder , soy sauce & black pe pper s).  Stir fr ied with spe cula for a bout 2- 3 min utes until r ice is a light golden co lor.  Focus on moving th e rice to the cen ter to pan.
STEP 4:  Once steam or lig ht smoke is ra diating fr om th e rice, add in th e ch opped scallio ns an d sesame oil.  Stir frie d for 3 secon ds for f in al completion.  T ran sfer to serving plate an d garn is h with additio nal gre en o nions.
