(WJBK) - If you are looking for a great way to spoil your loved one this Valentine's Day - think massage. The Birmingham Wellness Center is hosting a Couples Massage Class on Tueday, February 9 at 6:30 p.m.
VIDEO: Dr. Chelsea Hauswirth, a Chiropractic Physician there, joined us on The Nine to give us some tips on giving a relaxing, stress-reducing massage to your loved one. You can also read some of her tips below.
With your loved one in a comfortable seated position, start in the shoulders. Many of us hold tension and stress in our shoulder muscles. Begin with using light pressure and sweeping downward movements using your thumbs to give more pressure. Then work down to the shoulder blades. Spend extra time on areas that feel particularly tense. Make sure that your loved one can relax into the pressure you are using.
After you have finished working on their shoulders, giving them a hand or foot massage is a wonderful way to end. If you are focusing on their hands- start in the palm and use circular motions. This is particularly good for people who use the computer all day long or spend hours in the car each day.
Registration is required for the Couples Massage Class. Call 248-645-6070 for more details.
