Former Real Housewife speaking on how Mich. teen's death helped save her son

Emily Stillman was a 19-year-old sophomore at Kalamazoo College when, on January 31, 2013, she called home complaining of a headache. Thirty-six hours hours later, Emily passed away.

Her family later learned she had contracted the B strain of meningitis, the only strain not protected by vaccines in the United States.

While her death was tragic, Emily was able to donate six of her organs and save the lives of five people. One of those recipients is the son of Heather Thomson, founder of Yummie, Inc. and former Real Housewife of New York City. She joined us on The Nine to talk about the precious gift of organ donation.

Emily's family founded The Emily Stillman Foundation in her honor, and to raise awareness for meningococcal disease and organ donation. The organization is holding its Spring Sensation Luncheon on April 19, with lunch and shopping. Heather Thomson will also speak at the luncheon.

The luncheon is at Tam O' Shanter Country Club at 11 a.m. Tickets are $75.
