Freep Film Festival begins April 11

Some very special documentaries will take center stage in downtown Detroit during this year's Freep Film Festival.

Produced by the Detroit Free Press, this year's event features the largest lineup in its history. Film enthusiasts can explore over 70 screenings and experiences spanning across 12 venues in Detroit, Royal Oak and Novi, many with Detroit or Michigan ties. The 2018 roster of films include 25 premieres, eight of which are world premieres, a festival first.

For example, Opening Night is at the Fillmore April 11 with the world premiere of "The Russian Five," the documentary about the famous Red Wings players. The Fillmore show is sold out but there is another showing at the DIA on Friday, April 13.

Freep Film Festival executive editor Steve Byrne joined us in studio to tell us more about the films at this year's festival. You can hear from him in the video player above.

The full lineup and ticket info can be found at FreepFilmFestival.com.
