(WJBK) - Before guide dogs can be assigned to a family, first they have to be trained as pups. Leader Dogs for the Blind is looking for puppy raisers to house these future leader dogs.
These puppy raisers volunteer to host a Future Leader Dog in their home for a year before the dog goes into formal training. Puppy raisers teach basic obedience, house train the puppies and help to socialize them. They are a very important part of the process of training a dog to lead a person who is blind.
Laura Fisher joined us on The Nine to tell us more about the puppies and the process. You can hear from her in the video player above.
