New fashion exhibition coming to Detroit Historical Museum

(WJBK) - The Detroit Historical Museum will open its newest exhibition Fashion D.Fined: The Past, Present and Future of Detroit Fashion on Saturday, August 29 in the Booth-Wilkinson Gallery. The public is invited to celebrate the exhibit at an opening event on Friday, September 11 at 6 p.m.

Fashion D.Fined showcases 20th century design and retail in Detroit alongside the designers and grass roots fashion retailers of today. This exhibition features costumes from the 1940s, 50s, 60s and even 70s from well-known retailers such as Hudsons, Himelhoch's, Claire Pearone, B. Seigel and Winkelman's.

Today's innovative Detroit designers and retailers are also highlighted. Legendary designers John Varvatos, Anna Sui, Tracy Reese and many more creative Detroiters who have made their mark locally and nationally are featured, along with retailers like Carhartt, Will Leather and smaller boutique shops like The Peacock Room. Visitors will see that Detroit design is so much more than cars!

The Detroit Historical Museum, located at 5401 Woodward Ave. (NW corner of Kirby) in Midtown Detroit, is open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free for all, all the time.
