Meet Lilly and Kakee, elderly cat and dog best friends up for adoption

- Meet Lilly and Kakee.

The unlikely cat-and-dog duo grew up together and have bonded over the many years. Now, the animals find themselves in need of a new home -- but they can't be separated during adoption.

"They can't be separated. They love each other too much. Trying to separate them, they both fall apart and get very depressed," says Josh Redder, a shelter supervisor with the Michigan Humane Society.

Lilly is a 12-year-old Mountain Cur mix, and Kakee is a 10-year-old domestic short hair black cat. They were surrendered by a veteran moving to an assisted living facility.

Since they're both older animals, they have a very calm energy about them and will mostly likely spend their time being couch potatoes and cuddling with each other.

Michigan Humane Society President and CEO Matt Pepper introduced us to the animals, and says they even ride together in the same crate.

"She will let us know if [Kakee] is too far away," Pepper says.

Lilly and Kakee are available for adoption from the Rochester Hills facility on Auburn Road. They are available for the Pets for Patriots program, which offers discounted rates to veterans of the armed services.
