(WJBK) - Two friends dropped out of high school and college to start a pay-as-you-go cell phone company that could quite possibly change the cell phone game as we know it.
"If you were to just use Facebook, Instagram, and call and text every day - you wouldn't spend more than 75 cents a day," says Hunter Rosenblume.
That's how it works at Lunar Labs. With their cell phones, you quite literally pay as you go.
Each app costs 25 cents for 24 hours of unlimited use. When connected to Wi-Fi, though, you don't pay a dime.
"So, think of it like a TV subscriprtion. Rather than paying for all thousand channels, you can pay for three channels when you "watch" them that day," explains Rosenblume. He's the CEO and founder of Lunar Lab.
Wanna use Facebook? 25 cents. Instagram? 25 cents. Snapchat? 25 cents.
And their users save big money.
"Our average user spends as low as $10 a month on Lunar," says Rosenblume.
The uniqness of Lunar isn't just confined to their offices, either. With their new Lunar Rover, they're on the move.
"We make it easy," says Rosenblume. "We come straight to you. You don't have to go to any dingy lit store; we'll come right to you with this great truck and walk you through the process."
We tagged along to watch the affentionately-dubbed Lunar Rover launch to a new customers house. You can watch how it works in Derek Kevra's report in the video player above.
Customer Jude Townsend occasaonally uses Facebook, but not much else.
"It makes a lot more sense to me. I don't use the phone a whole lot; I dont use the internet a lot," he says.
"Really it's just about being fair to people, [being] open and letting them know what we're doing upfront," says Rosenblume.
And big things continue to happen for Lunar.
They just launched a new phone to their product line - the Nexus 5 - and are semi finalists in the Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition. They could win half a million dollars.
