Michigan tech company connects homeowners with service pros

- Another Michigan tech company is on the verge of becoming a national hit. In the simplest sense, Service.com brings together service pros with people that need them.

"If you were a consumer looking for a pro to come out to your home, you could type in, 'My furnace has a weird noise coming from it and I'm looking for help today,'" explainsCEO Sandy Kronenberg. Then, through the website or your iPhone/Android app, you get a list of reveiwed local contracters.

"We're actually matching you with the right pro who can take care of it, but, more importantly, our conversational approach and our service chat allow you to literally be chatting with the pro and you can pay the pro in that same process," says Kronenberg.

And that right there is what makes them different than just searching for a professional on the internet. Also, instead of trying to explain your problem, you can just send a picture.

"People are taking pictures and reaching out to pros and sharing information, and pros can sometimes give a quote immediately over the phone via service chat and others need to come out and look at the job," says Kronenberg.

For now, Service.com only exists in southeast Michigan and Columbus - and it's working.

"We have about 400 pros that have signed up in metro Detroit, and about 3,500 users," says Kronenberg.

Professionals, like Brien Worrell, say working with Service.com has been a boost for his business.

"[Our customers] are happier becuase they can communicate quicker to us with chatting. We find a lot of people don't like to talk on the phone now, so they can simply send a message to us as they feel their time permits," says Brien Worrell with Brien's Services Inc.

So, you may be wondering what you could use it for. Sandy says almost anything: electrical, plumbing, home improvement, sprinkler systems, roofing, and the list goes on.
