Rock the Block summer festivals in downtown Howell

- The Downtown Howell Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is hosting a series of free music and food festivals on the first Wednesday of the month in June, July and August. The festival series begins this Wednesday, June 1.  

At the festival, different live bands will play throughout downtown and you can also sample food from local restaurants with Best Bites on the Block. Wristbands are on sale now for the food tastings. They are $8 in advance or $10 the Day of. Family packages with 4 wristbands are $25.

GREAT FOODINI'S ROCK THE BLOCK FAYGO ROCK & RYE BREAD

3 cups self-rising flour 
12 oz Faygo Rock & Rye soda at room temperature             
1/3 c sugar
¾ cup Michigan dried cherries

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Mix ingredients well.  Spray standard loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray.  Place batter in pan and bake for about 50 minutes or until toothpick in center tests done.  Remove from oven, let cool 10 minutes and remove from pan.  For better slicing, let cool another 10 minutes.

FAYGO ORANGE DREAM GLAZE

1/4 cup Faygo Rock & Rye soda
1 cup powdered sugar

Combine powdered sugar and orange soda, mix well.  To serve over bread, leave bread in pan and poke 15 - 20 holes with toothpick or skewer.  Drizzle glaze over bread and let stand at least an hour to soak in.  Store tightly covered.

GREAT FOODINI'S FAYGO ORANGE BREAD

3 cups self-rising flour 
12 oz Faygo Orange soda at room temperature             
1/3 c sugar
1 small can (10 oz or so) mandarin oranges, well drained, saving liquid

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Mix ingredients well.  Spray standard loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray.  Place batter in pan and bake for about 50 minutes or until golden and toothpick in center tests done.  Remove from oven, let cool 10 minutes and remove from pan.  For better slicing, let cool another 10 minutes.
