Pig and Whiskey Festival in Ferndale July 15-17

- The Pig and Whiskey Festival is back in Ferndale this weekend for it's sixth year in a row. The festival promises to be a delicious weekend of BBQ, creative cocktails and whiskey sampling, live music, and entertainment.

The event is July 15-17 in downtown Ferndale on 9 Mile Road and east Troy Street, between the WAB and The Emory. All ages are welcome and admission is free. You can get more information at http://pigandwhiskeyferndale.com.

UNION JOINT'S BACON JAM RECIPE
 
6 oz chopped bacon
1/2 ea yellow onion, thinly sliced
1/2 tsp minced garlic
2 tbl cider vinegar
2 tbl brown sugar
1 tbl maple syrup
3/4 cup strong brewed coffee
1/8 tsp black pepper
 
Render bacon over medium-high heat, stirring frequently until browned.  Transfer cooked bacon to a paper towel lined plate, discard of all but 2 tablespoons of rendered fat.
Add sliced onion and minced garlic to pan, reduce heat and cook until onions are translucent.
Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil
Simmer, uncovered, until jam is reduced

Orange segments
Bitters
Blend in blender until smooth, serve in favorite cup
Mint Julep
 
House made mint syrup
Woodford reserve
Fresh mint garnish
