College Essay Writing: Tips for Students and Parents

The college essay writing season is underway, and it can be a nerve-wracking, intimidating process for future college students and their parents.

Kim Lifton and Susan Knoppow, founders of Wow Writing recently authored a new book, How to Write an Effective College Application Essay -- The Inside Scoop  to help guide and incorporate  parents into the college application essay process, rather than pushing them away.

Both stopped by the Fox2 Studios Sunday morning to discuss the book and off their advice for those with students navigating the college-application process.

"The essay is something that can have an affect and parents can help get through it," Knoppow said.

Having the right tone and information in the essay is essential for it be effective in the admission's office, and they explained why.

"It's more important than anyone really knows," Lifton said. "For the student on the cusp it can be a make and break a decision. They want o know who these students are beyond the grades, beyond the test scores. This is it, this is their time to shine."
