Halloween Party Décor Ideas with Kevin Miller

Halloween is fast approaching and there's plenty of conventional and unconventional ways to celebrate and decorate for that Halloween party.

Kevin Miller, owner of Twigs & Branches Floral in Shelby Township, dropped by the Fox2 Studios Saturday morning with some of his latest ideas to help you pull off a party everyone will remember.

First off, he offered a few ways to have fun with the kids and get their imaginations going with a tribute to Emerald City from the 'Wizard of Oz"

Floating Candle Centerpiece

I used a few different glass cylinder sizes to mock the look of the emerald city. I filled them with water and dyed the water green. Added a floating candle and your are good to go for a perfect centerpiece!

Glitzy Gold Arrangement

I had an old tray and painted it gold along with a few bud vases. I filled the tray with some preserved moss that
you can get from your local craft store. I added a few crystal votives candle holders to the mix. cluster of the candles and bud vases on top of the tray filled with moss and added some simple flowers.

Emerald City Floral Display

I used a 9” plastic dish and taped in green floral oasis. I used some of my favorite flowers to create this arrangement such as: white hydrangea, bells of Ireland, green carnations, salal, and green hypericum. I designed the arrangement with my bells shooting out like the towers in emerald city and filled in all the flowers around the bottom. Such a fun way to pull the theme in.

Gold Place Settings

Bring in the gold rimmed glasses. gold flatware, gold fun chargers. These little touches with enhance your
table and make everything more elegant.

Swirl Linens

I picked out this awesome green and gold swirl linen that just ties in all the gold and green arrangement.

DAY of the DEAD CELEBRATION

Colorful Paper Flowers

Grab a few different color tissue papers and fold them in one inch folds like accordion.
After you fold them cut them so that each color is 1” shorter on each side when you stake
them.
Once you have 4-5 different colors cut and staked you should be able to see each other on each side. Take a piece of floral wire tie in the middle of the staked pieces of paper and tie very tight. Unfold the each color paper to fill out to create your flower.
Once all are unfolded you will have a pretty flower that could go anywhere in your party as decor.

Prop Painting

-If you can find any other candelabras, bird cages, old hat boxes, etc. These are perfect for staging around your party. I just used flat black spray paint to spray all of them so they go together and stage them on buffet tables, guest table, etc.

Spooky Pumpkin Painting

-Here is a quick way to create and elaborate but easy display with pumpkins. I went to my local nursery and grabbed a few different pumpkins. Taped off the stem and painted the pumpkins white. I went to my local craft store and bought a bottle of black puffy paint and started to design my spooky pumpkin face. I did a lot of swirls and dots to bring in the “Day Of The Dead” theme.

Day of the Dead Arrangement
-I took an old pedestal bowl that I spray painted teal. I added some fun colorful gerber daisies, blue thistle, and yellow solidago!

Place Settings

-I used mainly black for all of my flatware and charger plates. I brought in some awesome purple water glasses to pop some color. I tied that in with a plum napkin with a unique fold to wow your guest.

Fabric

-My linen choice was fun! I used a regular white satin linen with a fun black overlay with black fringe. This ties everything in perfect and makes all the colors pop!
