DETROIT, Mich. - Each week, We Are One Community Unity takes over a small stretch of Peterboro just west of Woodward in Detroit to help people who are in need. Along with the lunches that the recipients can eat on the spot, they also distribute groceries, clothing, and toiletries. Most importantly, they spend time talking to people to offer words of encouragement and love to the homeless and less fortunate.
Founder Jerrold Boykin began doing this six years ago, out of the trunk of his car. He now has a food truck and a team of volunteers who assist him with purchasing food and other necessities. The volunteers also prepare and distribute food each Wednesday.
We are One is gearing up for their second Christmas Car Giveaway. This year's giveaway is expected to be bigger than last year, because the community can nominate people in need. For more information, visit the organization's website here.
Donate to help raise money for the car give away on the Go Fund Me Page. The car will be presented to the recipients on Christmas Eve.
