Safe Winter Driving with Belle Tire

Michiganders are no strangers to the snow, but driving in winter weather is a whole new animal. The professionals from Belle Tire share some tips to help keep you and your loved ones safe this season.

Winter Tires vs. All-season tires.

Winter tires perform better in temps below 45°.
Winter tires tread stays soft and flexible in winter conditions while all-season tires become stiff and less pliable.
Winter tires' have increased traction and control in cold temperatures and conditions.
The wider grooves on winter tires help drain water, slush, ice and snow.
Winter tires have improved stopping and starting capabilities along with better turning and maneuvering.
Belle Tire's convenient, easy storing system places your all-season wheels in a secure, climate-controlled location until you need them again.
It's a great idea to get a second set of rims for winter driving as well - alloy or aluminum wheels can be vulnerable to winter conditions. Painted alloy or steel wheels may be a better option.

Check your tires.

1. Rotate tires every 5,000 miles.
2. Frequently check tire pressure. If it's time to fill up, visit one of our FREE AIR stations at all of our locations.
3. Check for bulges or uneven wear.
4. Check tread depth (use the quarter test) - if you can see the top of George Washington's head when you place it in the tread grooves, it is time to replace your tires.
5. Keep the tires with the best tread on the back of the vehicle to prevent things like sliding out when driving in conditions like ice and snow.
