10 super foods to keep you healthy

Often times at my house, I'll say "eat more broccoli, it's a superfood." So what if your kids don't like broccoli? We've got some good options for kids in HW.

They're called super foods! That makes them sound very fun, but how do you convince kids to eat the uber healthy foods, and which ones are the best?

They're called super foods because they're packed with nutrients, and these power packed foods can help with growth and development.

"They have fiber, they have protein, they have vitamins and minerals, they have iron and a lot of things children need for development," said Jennifer Willoughby, RD/Cleveland Clinic Children's.

Willoughby puts nuts at the top of her super food list. They'll pack a powerful punch of nutrients and healthy fats. A child's handful of seven to twelve nuts will sustain kids and keep them fulll.

When you talk super foods, you can't ignore the greens superstars. Spinch, kale, broccoli and brussel sprouts are all low in calories but packed with nutrients like B viatmins, iron and fiber.

What makes kids like healthier foods? Two things; repeated exposure, that is, keep serving it. Second, positive experiences. That means don't force it.

Berries are heroic choices as well. Blueberries, raspberries and strawberries are loaded with fiber, vitamins and minerals. Willoughby says eggs are an excellent choice too.

"Eggs are a great super food because they contain protein, and they're actually one of the only foods that contain vitamin D, which helps calcium get absorbed into the bones," she said.

Whole grains contain fiber too, which helps regulate blood sugar.
