We all need a little motivation to get in your daily workout or skip that extra slice of pizza. You might find help in an unlikely place, Facebook.
"Pizza," said FOX 2 viewer James Preacher. "Thirty different ways, I could eat it every day of the week. It doesn't matter."
James is in his 40s, he wants to get healthy, so he's taking on our 21 Day Challenge. He is following our 5 Do's and 5 Don'ts to lose a few pounds.
And you'd never guess where he's finding real help - from strangers. A lot of them.
"It's a good group," he said.
James is part of our 21 Day Weight Loss Challenge Facebook page. More than 2,200 members are sharing their secrets to success.
"Everybody is very supportive," he said. "You have people doing different events around the city and sometimes around the state. Different walking events, running events. Bike riding.
"We post exercises and recipe, meals and we get a lot of support."
Steps walked, recipes discovered, it's all posted here by mostly metro Detroiters who just want to help each other get healthy. And it works.
"There's been times where I want that cheeseburger but before I have that cheeseburger I flip through my phone on Facebook," he said. "I see somebody say something that's inspirational and and I won't get that McDonalds."
"I'm approaching 40 and I want to be fabulous and 40," said Erika Cochran.
Cochran is a newcomer to the Facebook group and she's already encouraged by the friendly competition.
"'How many steps did you do,' oh I don't feel like walking, well you're supporting this group you can't let us down," She said. "So basically that support and accountability."
We're going to check in with Erica April 18 to see how she's doing on our 21 day challenge.
Erika is coming to our Healthy Heart Project. Free heart screenings at two locations, Providence Hospital in Southfield and St. John Hospital in Detroit starting To learn more, CLICK HERE.
