Beaumont Children's Bike Day give special needs kids their first bicycles

Friday was Beaumont Children's Hospital Bike Day - when specially made bikes are given to special needs kids.

In it's 11th year, the event gave out a record 117 specially modified bikes, funded in part by the Children's Miracle Network.

"We're excited that every year we can grow the event more and more," said Deb Adsit of Beaumont Hospital.

Five-year-old Connor, sporting a Batman shirt, was riding a bright green bicycle he received at the annual event.

His father said it was the first time he had seen him on a bicycle.

"It's just amazing, his father said. "He has a muscle disorder which makes it very difficult for him to be stable on a bike and not get hurt. So for him to have this independence is amazing.

"Now we can go for a bike ride as a family. We haven't been able to do that. We're really thankful for Beaumont Hospital for the opportunity."
