Derek's 30 Day Gallon-Of-Water-A-Day Challenge: Complete!

Well, I'm done. I have successfully finished the "Drink a gallon of water a day for 30 days" challenge. I guess I am glad I did it … but in the end, I really don't think it changed much for me.

The question I got asked the most was: are you sure that was healthy for you? As I explained in my last update, for someone of my height/weight/age drinking 128 ounces of water a day is not unhealthy. I am not a doctor though and would not be comfortable telling you that it's all good for you … but if you're interested, I'd check with a professional first. The second question I got asked was, "was it hard". The answer varied, though, on when you asked.

In my crude graph above, it was actually quite easy to drink a gallon of water a day for the first week, then it became increasing harder into the second week. In fact, there was one day I just couldn't do it and was 20 oz short. But then as I got past Week 3, things started getting easier again. I found myself thirstier when I woke up and immediately drank about 24 oz before I had coffee. I mean, I didn't ever cut out coffee (I'm not an insane person) but it did help me cut back on my overall coffee intake. And by the middle of the day I was craving more water and not another cup of joe. So, in that sense it definitely served it's purpose - over the last 30 days, I did not drink as much coffee.

As for the other effects that I read I may feel: better skin, weight loss … nah, those didn't happen. It did get me thinking more about choosing water over other drinks, so in that regard I'd call this challenge a success!

That being said … I'm glad I don't have to drink 128 ounces of water anymore!
