Healthy back to school eating tips for the kids

Registered Dietitian Denise Anderson from Beaumont joins us to give us some tips on feeding the kids a healthy breakfast before school.

The first big no-no, she says, are sugary cereals.

"They're going to be starving before the second hour," she says. She says go for a breakfast with more complex carbohydrates.

Her perfect travel breakfast? Cherry tomatoes, a banana and string cheese.

"You've got your protein with your cheese stick, you've got your banana which is your carb and an added little bonus with the tomatoes," she says.

Her biggest tip is to include complex carbohydrates, which include high fiber cereals or breakfast bars or whole-wheat wraps with leftover chicken or scrambled eggs.
