Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the U.S. for both men and women.

Symptoms of heart disease

While there are a number of conditions that can lead to heart disease, it's important to recognize the common symptoms of heart disease so you can see your doctor to receive the correct diagnosis and treatment.
Common heart disease symptoms include:
chest pain
shortness of breath
pain, numbness, weakness or coldness in your legs and arms
fluttering in your chest
racing or slow heartbeat
lightheadedness
dizziness or fainting

Risk factors of heart disease

Inherited or genetic risk factors are heart disease risks that you are born with and cannot be changed, but can be improved. They include:
family history
age
gender
Acquired factors are heart disease risks caused by activities that we choose to include in our lives. Acquired risk factors include:
high cholesterol
high blood pressure
weight
inactivity
use of tobacco and alcohol
stress levels
