The temperatures are heating up and many are jumping into those pools, but it's important to remember a few safety tips, too. Dr. Earlexia Norwood , a Family Practice Physician from Henry Ford Hospital, joins us to give us some of those tips.

The first may seem obvious -- no urinating in the pool. But, it's important to know why this is a big no-no.

"When the urine mixes with chlorine, there is a bacterial infection that can occur," she says.

Another rule is to protect yourself from sunburn.

"Most people don't apply enough and they don't apply it often enough," she says. "You want to make sure that you use at least a 30 proof sunscreen; apply it every 30 to 40 minutes."

She says everyone needs sunscreen, too, regardless of skin type.

"Everyone is susceptible to skin cancer," she says.

She also advises to always watch your kids in the pool for any injuries that could result in drownings.
