Woman gets unexpected response to request for mental health days

A woman who took a couple of mental health days did not get a predictable response from her boss.

Madalyn Parker, a web developer in Michigan, said she sent her boss a message saying she was taking two days off for mental health.

Her boss thanked her for the reminder of how important mental health is.

“I just wanted to personally thank you for sending emails like this. Every time you do, I use it as a reminder of the importance of using sick days for mental health – I can’t believe this is not standard practice at all organizations. You are an example to us all, and help cut through the stigma so we can all bring our whole selves to work,” Ben Congleton wrote.

Parker shared the exchange on social media and it has since gone viral.
