MONROE, Mich. (FOX 2) - A bowling alley in Monroe was totally destroyed in an overnight fire.
The fire started around 2:30 a.m. at Nortel Lanes bowling alley on Telegraph Road, near Custer Road. When firefighters got to the scene the building was fully engulfed in flames, and was deemed too dangerous to enter due to structural concerns.
Staff and patrons left the building at 11 p.m. when the bowling alley closed, so no one was inside and no injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire isn't known right now. Fire Chief Robert Wight says the building didn't have a sprinkler system, and is estimated to be at a total loss.
The fire was eventually brought to control around 8 a.m., nearly 6 hours later.
Telegraph Road was closed in the area for most of the early morning, but reopened around 7:30.
