Red Cross offering vets and their families free job training scholarships

DETROIT (WJBK) -- The American Red Cross is offering Certified Nurse Assistant Training Scholarships to military service members, veterans and military family members.

"The ability to assist active duty service members and their families to get ahead is important to the Red Cross. We've been working closely with our nation's armed forces since our founding in 1881," said Kimberly Burton, American Red Cross Chief Executive Officer for the Michigan Region. "These scholarships are really special in that in addition to active duty members and veterans, military family members also are able to benefit from these funds."

During the four-week long program, 55 skills are taught that range from taking blood pressure, pulse and
respiration, to patient care, grooming and communication skills.

Upon course completion, participants receive Red Cross certificates and are immediately eligible to take the Michigan Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation Exam to secure state certification and subsequent employment in a wide range of health care settings. Both morning and evening sessions are offered with new classes beginning monthly.

Scholarships will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. For additional information, please call 313-576-4120.
