Police search for triple homicide suspect in southwest Detroit apartment

 A suspect in a triple homicide on the southwest side is still at large.

Three people were shot to death and discovered inside an apartment on Detroit's southwest side Friday.

"They were good people and I will never forget them, period," said Rashard Howard.

The three victims were  37-year-old Jathan Butler known as "Jay-Dee"  his 29-year-old brother Michael Butler and Jay-Dee's girlfriend, identified as 24-year-old Cathleen Rudolph.  Police are still searching for their killer.

Writing messages to their three friends Monday afternoon, two men shake their heads in disbelief.

"It's just sad to take a person away like that," said Dez Johnson, a friend of the victims.

Johnson and Howard added to the growing memorial outside a southwest Detroit apartment complex on Hubbard.

Their bodies were found Friday night. On Monday their deaths were ruled homicides.

"Life is way more valuable than just pettiness," Howard said. "That is what Detroit is coming to, pettiness."

Neighbors inside reported hearing gunshots Thursday night. another neighbor, brushed off what she called weird noises coming from the back door but not calling police until Friday.  

A resident found all three bodies inside the first floor apartment..

"We talked every day," Johnson said. "He was like my brother."

Homicide investigators visited the apartment Monday and are trying to piece together what led to the shooting. 

Friends are thinking of the pain their families must be feeling.

"You took three innocent good people away," Johnson said. "For no reason at all."
